Robotics & Autonomous Systems (RAS) – Workforce & Classification Development
As the Navy expands its Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS) capabilities, we support the development of a future-ready officer workforce aligned to emerging technologies and mission needs. This effort directly supports the Navy’s transition to a hybrid fleet and the Chief of Naval Operations’ strategic vision.
Our work focuses on defining, structuring, and managing officer roles within the RAS domain to ensure a sustainable pipeline of highly skilled personnel.
Key Contributions
- Conducted research and analysis to define RAS officer roles and requirements
- Coordinated with the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) and Office of Naval Research (ONR) to align workforce development with cutting-edge RAS technologies and research initiatives
- Supported development of Navy Officer Classification System (NOOCS) elements
- Prepared classification packages for submission to governing boards
Workforce & Classification Development
- Established and refined:
- Navy Officer Billet Classification (NOBC) codes
- Additional Qualification Designator (AQD) codes
- Codified officer education, training, and experience for improved tracking and management
- Enabled workforce planning and career path development for RAS officers
Manpower Planning & Analysis
- Supported Manpower Requirements Determination (MRD) processes
- Developed frameworks to improve workforce distribution, retention, and readiness
- Aligned officer capabilities with evolving RAS mission requirements
Technical & Program Support
- Delivered NOOCS packages in accordance with NAVPERS guidance
- Provided subject matter expertise leveraging ONR, NRL, and NIWC research
- Produced monthly technical and financial status reporting
